Electric boogaloo, or electric boogie for short, is a style of dance that originated in California in the 1970s in parallel with locking. It was invented by "Boogaloo Sam". Its characteristic features include illusionistic elements, such as waves that flow through the body, and other style pantomimes such as "the march against the wind", which can be traced back to Michael Jackson's "Moonwalk". The step is actually known as backslide and was developed by Californian crew "The Electric Boogaloos".
"Boogaloo Sam" is also regarded as the inventor of popping. The dance is characterised by short, impulsive, isolated movements and contraction (tensing and releasing the muscles), which allow the dancer to work mechanically, depending on the execution. The dance style was inspired by robot movements from science fiction films, computer animations, and natural phenomena such as water and electricity, and is closely related to the electric boogaloo. One of its most important representatives is Mr. Wiggles (see photo).
