Housedance
The dance style house developed in the late 70s under the influence of the disco and funk era on the east coast of America. It was only recognised on the club scene, too, in the 80s. One of the first known clubs to play this new genre of music was "Warehouse" (hence the name house) in Chicago. The term "house" was the generic term for the style of music, and was then used to describe the dance style. It is usually danced to melodious house music (vocal tunes) and is now an established style that has been heavily influenced by other styles such as tap dance, salsa, capoeira, African dance, and even hip hop. Footwork is very important in the dance, but very soft, relaxed movements are also used. While early hip-hop music was heard more on the Afro-American and Latino scene, the house movement had a very broad and commercial audience.
